Minister of Transportation Honourable Amaechi.
The hope of Staff of the Nigeria Maritime Administrative and Safety Agency,(NIMASA) for enhanced salary and package as promised by their Director General,Dr. Bashir Jamoh, may have been dashed as the Minister of Transportation,Honourable Rotimi Amaechi has refused his approval of the presentation.
On resumption of office ,Dr. Jamoh has promised to look into the salary and total emoluments of the workers to encourage them due to their hardworking and the nature of their work. Towards this, he has forwarded his proposal for approval to the Minister.
However, while speaking to newsmen while on inspection of the Lagos Ibadan standard Railway gauge, Honourable Amaechi said though the Director General tried to convince him that the Agency has enough money towards increase salary for his staff, he however refused the request as he told him the federal government is not making money.
The Minister said the ministry of transportation is not as rich as other ministries.
NIMASA like other government agencies pays its earnings into the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and needs the approval of the government to spend the money generated.
Meanwhile the Minister said he was not unaware of the poor salary structure of workers of the railways and has promised to work with the union executive towards improving their wages. He said this will encourage young people to work with the railway corporation.
