In its futuristic plans to deliver modern and effective train services, the government is to link the country’s airports with railway stations.
Chairman Joint House Committee on Land Transport, Senator Buhari AbdulFatai, said this in Lagos at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu train station, while speaking to newsmen during the oversight visit of members of the committee to Nigeria Railway Corporation, to see for themselves, how judiciously the Corporation has spent its budgetary allocation.
Senator AbdulFatai said linking the airports with train stations will facilitate quick departure of passengers. Senator AbdulFatai who led members of the committee and officials of the Nigeria Railway Corporation on a train ride on the newly constructed standard gauge to Bola Ahmed Tinubu train station in Apapa from Mobolaji Johnson station at Ebute Metta, gave a pass mark to the corporation for a job well done.

He said with what they have seen accross the country, the Railway Corporation has spent well its budgetary allocation. The distinguished Senator said facilities provided at the newly built train stations between Lagos and Ibadan and other parts of the country justified the loan taken from the Chinese to built the infrastructure.
In his speech, the Managing Director, Nigeria Railway Corporation, Engineer Fidet Okhiria assured that all the facilities, equipment and train stations will be adequately maintained. He said due to improved services, the Corporation remitted the sum of one hundred and sixty million, four and sixty four thousand and three naira to the federal government approved TSA account domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He said the Corporation is considering requirement of additional one thousand staff to complement its work force due to the operation of the newly Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge line.

The Managing Director of Nigeria Railways called for the support of members of the committee in its quest to improve the network of train services accross the country and its desire to enhance the salary of the workers.
