Nigeria Labour Congress in Ogun State has declared the Minister of Works, Honourable Raji Fashola persona non grata in the state, saying he is not welcome, following the bad roads in the state, in particular the Sango axis of the Lagos – Abeokuta expressway.
Chairman of the NLC in Ogun State, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole addressing hundreds of people at Sango Ota ,during a protest on the condition of federal roads in the state, in particular Lagos Abeokuta expressway, said the Minister has dissapointed the people following his ministry nonchalant attitude towards the reconstruction of the road
Speaking at the protest rally which saw the closure of the road to motorists for several hours, Comrade Bankole said the Minister has not stand by his words that the road will be repaired and completed on time.
He said due to the bad condition of the Lagos Abeokuta expressway, many people had lost their lives, while the people face daily hardship and nightmare.
Comrade Bankole who stormed Sango Ota with hundreds of workers from various affliates of the Congress, called on the government to expedite action and pay the Contractor, Julius Berger Construction Company so as to speed up work. He said the Congress initial plan was to shut down the Lagos Abeokuta expressway for three days, but they changed their minds due to the palliative which the state government is embarking on the road.
He said the demand of the Congress is for a complete reconstruction of the road and not palliative. He challenged the federal government and the Ogun state government to see to the complete repair of all federal roads in the state and for the state government to repair all state and access roads.
Members of the public who spoke to CITY EXPRESS NEWS also berated the federal government for its non challant attitude to road network in Sango Ota axis, in particular the Lagos Abeokuta expressway and Sango Ota-Idiroko expressway. They said the bad roads are pains on the neck of the people, resulting into accidents, untimely deaths and nightmare.
Meanwhile, the Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights has called on the state government to fix all road networks within the state and for the federal government to see to the repair of all federal roads across Nigeria.
Already the Ogun state government has begun palliative works on the Sango axis of the Lagos Abeokuta expressway as well as the Idiroko expressway.
