Controversy trails the return of Police anti robbery squad. There have been a lot of conspiracy theories and rumours especially in the social media raising fears of the reasons why the banned anti-robbery squad is back. Many sources revealed that the government wants to use them for the coming election in Anambra state and other subsequent elections and to stop insecurity challenges in the country.
City EXPRESS NEWS can authoritatively revealed their return in the country. On Tuesday 26th October 2021, a team of anti-robbery squad from Sango-Otta, Ogun State Command were coming from the Ojuore area, to their station, Sango Otta Divisional Headquarters, driving on one way and started flogging motorists, and Okada riders.
Five motorcyclists riders were arrested for causing obstruction for them. CITY EXPRESS NEWS was at Sango Otta police station where the motorcyclists were seen negotiating for their bail. As the negotiating was going on, CITY EXPRESS News reporter asked one of the police officers whether the Squad is back on operation, though he did not want his identity to be revealed, he emphatically said they are back to duty.
At the time City EXPRESS NEWS visited the DPO Office, CSP Godwin Idehai, he was not on seat for comment. CITY EXPRESS NEWS also visited the office of the Area Commander, ACP Muyideen Obe, but he was busy attending to some matters.
At the time City EXPRESS NEWS correspondent called on Commissioner of Police, CP Frank Mba, his phone ranged several times without answer.
In Lagos state, the special anti-robbery squad name has been changed to Commissioner of Police team. It was discovered that they only changed their name, but the squad is back. As for Ogun State Police Command, the anti-robbery squad is back. “We are back with lot of reformation and different training of our personnel, the reliable source revealed to CITY EXPRESS NEWS”.
