Tributes to Brown Ebewele

By Prince Sunny Ebhojiaye.

There were encomiums, glamour and funfare as Brown Francis Ebewele was buried in blaze of glory and grand style. The year 2021 witnessed the passing of Nigeria sports hero whose death sent spontaneous shockwaves across the sports world.

And it was understandable, it was said that if the dude fondly called juju man were a coin, he would literarily have more than two sides because he was many things to many people.  He was all things to all men, women and kids.  He was there for everyone.  He always light up every gathering attended because of his jokes and love.

You did not need to ask before he gives out, he was a cheerful giver. Brown was compassionate, humble and strong. With a contagious smiles and infectious laugh, he turned heads everytime he talked .

Sadly on Friday 24th December 2021,  Ebewele bid the world goodbye. He was said to have gone for his regular walk for physical fitness, from where he was rushed to the hospital and died from his sleep.

The service of song and funeral took place in his home town, Uromi in Edo State. Prayer and memorial songs took place in Benin city on 27th January 2022 while the final burial was at Uromi. The cream of Edo state people, friends and colleagues, gathered to give him a befitting farewell.

He was a mentor and inspirational to many sports writers and led many of them to develop interest in athletics. In 2003, during the Africa Games in Abuja, he told CITY EXPRESS NEWS that he loved to task athletes to take advantage of their youthful age to make an impact in their endeavour.

Man of the people Brown Ebewele

As an Esan, I take consolation that he has represented us well, done his best and urge my people to continue to pray for the family he left behind and also emulate and strive to upload the legacy he left behind.
