Contractors have begun the track laying on the Port Harcourt to Maiduguri rail corridor.
The corridor will connect Rivers state, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe and Bornu states by rail.
The revolution to connect Nigeria by rail through the narrow and standard gauge is ongoing.
It behoves on all Nigerians to see this cause as something to be supported as it will boost economic development, tourism, and reduce road accidents on the roads.
The Federal Government should do all in its powers to secure all the rail tracks and equipment of Nigerian Railway Corporation all over the country. Surveillance should not be only on the standard gauge but also accross all the narrow gauge.
Rail transport is not only safer but cheaper, and all efforts should be made to sustain this.
