The Inspection General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba said that the 13th Biennial police games slated for Uyo City, Akwa Ibom state will be very competitive and exciting. IGP Baba recently invited the sports planning committee for the count down to the beginning of kick off by the Nigeria President Muhammad Buhari on 23rd September 2022 for the opening ceremony while the closing ceremony comes up on the 30th September 2022.
Speaking on the police games, Usman Alkali Baba noted that the week long event is going to be more exciting and competitive than previous ones.
No doubt this police games will see some of the finest sports championship with 4500 athletes from the 17th zonal commands and the forces headquarters.
The athletes will feature and compete in several activities which include Athletics, football, basketball, table tennis, lawn tennis, judo, taekwando, badminton, karate, weightlifting, golf, squash, chess, shooting, swimming, hockey, triathlon, handball and tug of war.
The sports loving Inspector General of police, is very passionate about sports development in the (NPF) for hidden sports talents within the police force to be discovered and be given platform to showcase their talents to the world.
Great talents have been discovered through the sports games in the past, they include ACP Chioma Ajuwan Oparah Atlanta 96 Olympics Gold medalist in long jump, police fighting machine, SP Babatunde Jonathan, SP Kelly Ikhuoria, late SP Sunday Bada, former 200m World championship and other stars.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi told City Express News on telephone interview from Abuja that President Muhammadu Buhari, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Ufom Gabriel Emmanuel and Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba are expected to storm Uyo city for the biggest police event in the country.
ACP Chioma Ajuwon will also be there to watch the spectacular sporting event.
