Minister of Transportation assures train passengers of adequate security.

To see for himself measures taking so far to ensure smooth train service along the Lagos Ibadan train service corridor, the

Minister of Transportation ,Honourable Muazu Jaji Sambo, accompanied by Minister of State Transportation, Prince Ademola Adegoroye was in Lagos yesterday to inspect rail network infrastructure in Lagos and Ibadan.

He was accompanied by top officials of the Ministry and the Managing Director of Nigerian Railway Corporation, Engineer Fidet Okhiria, and top officials of the Corporation. He was shown the Control towers at Ebute Metta where the rail activities were being monitored to ensure adequate security and proper working conditions, and expressed satisfaction with measures taking to ensure proper train services.

He was also at Kajola rail wagon assembly plant in Ogun state to check progress made so far at the plant. The inspection also took him to Obafemi Awolowo railway station in Moniya, Ibadan.

Speaking to newsmen in Ibadan, the Transportation Minister, expressed delight with the modernisation of the Railway service by the Federal government. He assured that the government is not joking with the security of passengers as adequate measures are being put in place. He reiterated that the Abuja to Kaduna rail services would resume before the end of November as the government is putting everything necessary in place before the announcement of the date of take off.

The Minister said the government would ensure that all stations in the county are adequately secured.

The Minister added that rail services would continue to receive adequate attention to ease transportation in the country.

Engineer Okhiria at a meeting with the Minister in Lagos enumerated the challenges being faced by the Corporation which included low revenue due to the stoppage of the Kaduna Abuja rail services and the activities of those who carted away rail infrastructure. He assured that the Corporation was responding to all the anomalies and thanked the government for all the measures taking so far to ensure smooth operations of rail services throughout the country.
