FOBTOB asks Government to encourage the growth of food industry

The Food industry is significant and important to the growth of Nigeria and everything should be done towards its progress and nothing should be done to downplay its contribution to the society.

National President of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Senior Staff Association (FOBTOB) Comrade Jimoh Oyibo said this in Lagos while speaking to CityExpressNews at the 45th anniversary celebration of the union, held at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja.

Comrade Oyibo said what happened to the textile industry, a leading industry before going to comatose as a result of importation of foreign textiles into the country should not be allowed to happen to the Food industry.

He said a situation in which every item of food materials are imported into the country does not augur well for the growth of the food industry.

Comrade Oyibo is also worry about the activities of bandits who kill farmers and disturb farming activities in the country, challenging the government to put an end to their activities.

Speaking on the 45th anniversary of FOBTOB, Comrade Jimoh Oyibo said the union has been a stabilizing factor in the food beverage and Tobacco industry in the past years.

He said the union principle is to ensure the continue growth of the industry and has helped in many occasions in resolving industrial disputes.

Chairman of the 45th Celebration, the Chief Executive of Intercontinental Distillers, Patrick Anegbe commended FOBTOB on its integral role in shaping the landscape in the Food Beverage and Tobacco Industry.

He said FOBTOB has been tireless in advocating for the rights of its members, fostering an environment of collaboration and promoting fairness and equality in the industry.


He also acknowledged the strong partnership that has developed between
the employers and the Food, Beverages, and Tobacco Senior Staff Association as
together, they have worked to create a harmonious working relationship,
understanding the importance of a fair and balanced labor market.

He said it was through this colaboration that they have been able to thrive and contribute to the success
of the industry.


“Our members have shown dedication and commitment to their roles,
making invaluable contributions to the growth and prosperity of our companies.
Their hard work, dedication, and expertise have been instrumental in ensuring the
continued success of our businesses.


. “We have collaboratively navigated through turbulent times,
changing market dynamics, and economic uncertainties. Through open dialogue
and constructive negotiations, we have successfully addressed issues and arrived
at mutually beneficial solutions.”


He commended the Food, Beverages, and
Tobacco Senior Staff Association for its several intervention in the course of the astronomical increase of exercise duties, fuel subsidy removal and encourage backward integration in the sector.


The three days celebration activities saw the presentation of awards to companies that have helped towards the sustainance of the union.

Awards of Excellent Industrial Relations with FOBTOB were given to PROMASDO, Nigerian Breweries, Nigeria Bottling Company, Intercontinental Distillers, Dangote Sugar Refinery and Honeywell Flour Mill.

Also given award is Seway Waters. Speaking on the award, Comrade Benjamin Celestine representing the company said not only does the company recognized the rights of the workers, it also encourages good industrial relations.
